This lady cropped up in a recent photo competition here, and coincidentally Drummerworld posted a video the same day.

Shame about the sound.

She's good...and hot.
But I have yet to find a female drummer who really causes me to go "WOW look at the drummer!".
Maybe it's just that women lack the musculature that guys have and therefore can't throw themselves around, or that they just aren't as aggressive at drumming like a Tony Willams or Billy or Virg or Gary Husband. Tony's arms were fricking huge and he hit with authority. Billy was a physical specimen too, still is.
That said, she's really good. Better than I am. Probably better than a helluva lot of other guys.

I was lucky to see and hear Vera play at the Montreal Drum Fest two years ago. She is one powerful drummer incorporating jazz, fusion, samba in her style of playing.
You guys should check out her CD which has Dave Weckl, Virgil Donati, Dennis Chambers playing duets with her ! The CD is called "Vera Cruz Island".
You can check out her website :

Do we hear with our ears, or with our eyes?

I don't understand why every drummer we hear should blow our lids off.
She rocks. The only problem I got with the vid is I couldn't hear her well enough. Tell you what she's better than Derico

I see with my eyes...I hear with my ears.
She's pretty. And a damn good drummer.
Cindy Blackman is pretty and a damn fine drummer.
I'm a guy, so what...you're kidding yourself if image isn't a part of drumming.

If that was a guy, no one would have even noticed him. It sounds like someone playing some exercises to me. Granted, this is the only bit I've heard, so I'm not writing her off or anything....I'm just saying, there's no reason for me to get excited from that clip.

Again, just like similar posts, I feel that we should not judge a drummer with a 60 second clip. It just does not give the whole picture.
Vera is a much more complete musician than most of us know about her. She runs a very successful drum and percussion school in Brazil, and is responsible for her own drum festival which motivates hundreds of students. Only this little bit of info tells us that she's done much more for drumming than most of us here.
It's not a coincidence that Weckl, Chambers, Donati and others have accepted to play drum duets on her CD.
